CCHS is reopening! Finally!!
After a very long stretch of everything being closed and cancelled, CCHS is going to be reopening on Friday, July 2nd. Things may be a little different, but we're very excited to finally be returning to some sense of normalcy. We will once again be having regular open hours of 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Our Adoption Floor and Kitty City will be open for visitors and volunteers. You'll be able to walk through the Shelter to see all of our adoptable animals.
Adoptions will continue to be done by appointment only. If you have submitted your adoption application online through our website, our adoption committee will review the application in 24-48 hours and notify you if you are approved. An appointment will then be scheduled for you to come in and meet the dog or cat. If it's a good match for everybody, you will be able to complete the adoption process that day.
If you are visiting and walking through the Shelter and you happen to see the perfect pet you'd like to meet, we'll be happy to assist as best we can. Priority will still go to those with adoption reservations. But if we have a staff member available to assist you, you'll be able to meet the pet and spend time with him/her. Of course you can submit your adoption application while you are visiting at the Shelter in person, too. We will do our best, but we cannot guarantee same day adoptions. If staff is not available to assist you with a meet & greet or to review your application, we will be glad to schedule an appointment for you to return and adopt a pet when more time is available. We thank you in advance for your understanding and patience as we work through these changing times!
Our CC Resale 2 store is again open on Saturdays from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. There is a ton of new merchandise on display, so you're sure to find some treasures you just have to have! Our original CC Resale Store (located at 600 Hewett St, across from the Neillsville Post Office) will be open for "Free Day Friday" by announcement only.
Our FixaPet Program is trying to catch up as best we can. We do have a waiting list for spay/neuter surgeries and priority will be given to those clients as spots become available. Appointments for vaccinations are also being scheduled once again! Appointments can be made by contacting our Appointment Coordinator Heidi at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 715-937-7770 (please leave a message).
We know things will continue to change as we get used to new routines. We're just so happy to be able to welcome visitors to the Shelter again. Please do stop in and hang out in Kitty City or wander through the kennel rooms. The animals will be excited to see you!
FixaPet is hiring! We are seeking a full-time Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) to add to our growing staff and expanding programs! FixaPet is a HQHVSN program sponsored by the Clark County Humane Society in Neillsville, WI. Since its inception, FixaPet has performed more than 21,000 spay/neuter surgeries. And we’re just getting started!
FixaPet is now expanding to add more spay/neuter surgeries each day, provide dental services, increase wellness appointments and vaccinations, and to ensure basic veterinary care. We are excited about our future, and want you to be a part of it.
Our ideal candidate will be a team player with a positive attitude. Must be currently licensed in the State of Wisconsin. Previous CVT experience is required, as well as skills handling dogs and cats. This position will work closely with our veterinarians and other staff. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. We are looking for professional, friendly interactions with clients, with client education always important. Attention to detail, efficiency, and organizational skills are a plus. Compassionate care for patients is of the utmost priority. Assistance with future plans to pursue Fear Free certification for the clinic is desirable.
Basic tasks for this CVT position will include performing lab procedures, surgical prep, assisting with anesthesia, monitoring patients, taking vital signs, administering medications, phlebotomy, record keeping, and other duties as assigned. Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch is needed, as well as ability to carry up to 50 pounds (heavier lifting will always require assistance from another staff member). As the FixaPet program also provides the care for shelter animals residing at CCHS, a great opportunity also exists for becoming involved with our Shelter Medicine program. Other duties may be defined as the FixaPet program expands. We are looking for that special CVT to grow with us. Ultimately, we are looking for a self-starter and go-getter willing to also take on responsibility for coordinating the surgical day, supervising appointments, being responsible for ordering supplies, utilizing staff to the best of their talents, and making FixaPet the best place to bring pets for their basic care. Our newest CVT will be a key part of our bright future!
At FixaPet we respect a positive work/life balance. There are no night, weekend, or emergency hours. Benefits include paid time off, health insurance, continuing education opportunities, professional stipend for license dues and professional memberships, and a beautiful working environment in Central Wisconsin. While we are searching for a full-time CVT, part-time applicants will also be considered. Beginning pay is $15-20 per hour, depending on experience and efficiency. We intend to fill this position ASAP.
Please send cover letter, resume and compensation requirements to Chuck Wegner, Executive Director, PO Box 127, Neillsville, WI, 54456, or email to email@example.com.

2020 Dog & Cat Statistics
We are very proud of our 2020 Statistics. As a true No-Kill Shelter, we believe that transparency is critical to our mission, and will always disclose factual numbers for adoptions/RTO's/transfers/deaths/euthanasias at the Shelter. (Redemptions or RTO's are strays that came to the Shelter and are returned to their owners.) We are thrilled that our Live Release Rate is 99.5% for dogs in 2020 and 99.4% for cats.
