Big Kitty (BK) is the boss at CCHS!

BK is the mascot at CCHS. He has quite a history, and we feel very honored to have
him with us at the Shelter. After a very long journey, BK has found his home at the Clark County Humane Society.
Someone actually dumped BK outside the Shelter's door almost five years ago.
He was loose and it's very lucky BK wasn't killed on the highway. It was meant to be.... BK was meant
to represent the Shelter, and he loves doing it. It was a terribly wet, cold, rainy night when BK was abandoned.
BK was in terrible condition when he arrived, with severe stomach problems. His fur was in desperate need of grooming.
CCHS worked to get BK all fixed up, and he went from 12# to 30#. BK is a Big Kitty! Unfortunately, BK had
some medical problems. He started feeling sick and it was discovered that BK suffers from"mega colon", which
is common in large cats like BK. It hurt an awful lot for BK, and he needed to have surgery to correct this condition
immediately. Without the surgery, BK would have died, and we just couldn'tt let that happen. All of the volunteers
and visitors love BK, and he loves each of them. Being a no-kill Shelter, we have often
held fundraisers to help homeless pets get the expensive surgery they need. But this case was even more devastating.
BK is an incredible mascot for CCHS. He has an exceptional personality, purrs non-stop, and is very talkative with
all visitors. BK watches over each of the homeless guests at the Shelter. The surgery BK needed was very expensive,
over $1800. We worked very hard to raise enough money to save BK. Special fundraisers were held, and we put the
word out through our website. We received donations from all over the country, and BK was able to get the surgery he
needed. Giving up on him after all he's done for us was not an option.
So BK had his surgery, and recovered beautifully. He's back at the Shelter and has resumed his duties
overseeing general offfice operations and greeting visitors. He's now on a special diet, and he is very healthy
and happy. We can't say enough about the generosity of people who came forward to help this wonderful cat.
All of us will be forever grateful for the donations we received to help BK. Thank you!! BK now has many years
ahead of him to serve as our mascot, and we all know each minute will be treasured dearly by everyone, especially him.
Please stop in at CCHS and meet BK. He's a cat you just have to meet in person!
